The song became a hit in Chicago in 2004, when M.O.B. Records was also involved, helping Casper create a full compilation album with other Chicago artists to promote the dance. “Cha Cha Slide” was later picked up by Universal Records.

In January 2016, Casper was diagnosed with kidney cancer and neuroendocrine cancer. After unsuccessful surgery the same month, he started chemotherapy. In a July 2018 interview, he said he was in remission. In 2019, he said he overcame liver and kidney cancer and said he’s a changed man, saying, “It’s God’s way of helping me slow down a bit. ”
